Er. Yeow Mei Leng
Technical Director
Arup Singapore Pte Ltd

Mei is an accomplished building services consultant with over 30 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry. She is currently an Associate Principal at Arup, where she leads multidisciplinary teams on complex and large-scale developments. Recently honoured as the Woman Building Engineer of the Year, Mei is recognised for her technical excellence, leadership in the profession, and commitment to advancing sustainability and inclusivity in the built environment.

Her professional journey began with Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner (SEA) Pte Ltd, where she spent 18 years building deep expertise in mechanical and fire protection systems and taking on progressively senior leadership responsibilities. She later joined Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd before moving to Arup, where she continues to play a central role in delivering high-profile projects across the region.
Mei’s project portfolio spans super high-rise towers, mixed-use complexes, healthcare and institutional facilities, townships, recreational centres, and M&E infrastructure. In every project, she takes a hands-on approach—liaising with clients and authorities, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, and ensuring high standards of delivery from concept to completion.

A significant milestone in her career was helping to establish an engineering practice arm for her company in Beijing, strengthening its presence in the China market. Through this pioneering effort, Mei not only broadened her own international perspective but also contributed to expanding the company’s global footprint, setting the foundation for long-term collaboration and influence in the region.

Beyond project execution, Mei has made lasting contributions to the industry through her involvement in code development and technical advisory roles. She has served on multiple code review committees, shaping regulatory updates and aligning Singapore’s standards with international best practices. She also serves on professional selection panels, assessing and appointing Professional Engineers, Fire Safety Engineers, Lift and Escalator Inspectors, and Resident Site Staff—a responsibility she views as essential in maintaining the credibility and integrity of the profession.

Mei is a Green Mark Professional and an advocate for sustainable building design. She champions holistic approaches that integrate passive and active strategies to deliver low-carbon, resilient, and people-focused environments. She is also a frequent speaker at industry seminars, where she shares insights on regulatory frameworks and sustainable practices to elevate professional standards across the sector.
Outside of work, Mei is an avid sports enthusiast who believes that a strong body nurtures a sound mind. Whether through regular exercise or outdoor activities, she finds balance and renewal in physical fitness, which in turn sharpens her focus and resilience as an engineer and leader.

As a mentor and role model, Mei is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of engineers, especially women entering the field. She believes diversity and inclusivity are critical to the future of engineering, and she takes pride in guiding young professionals to embrace innovation, lead with integrity, and create meaningful societal impact.
With a career marked by professional excellence, industry leadership, and a forward-looking vision, Mei continues to inspire her peers and set benchmarks for engineering practice in Singapore and beyond.
